Frisbee the Alligator
"Gas is out of this world. Whatever shall I do? I know. I'll collect lost frisbees from a Florida lake and sell them for gas money." Except the frisbee he found was only named Frisbee, and was neither round, nor could fly. But he did have a whole lot of teeth. His body would be found later. A victim of too much frisbee fun at the lake.

I have no idea why this was tied to gas prices given there's no mention of that in the submitted article or the few others I found about this incident. But given it sounds like there were clearly posted signs warning not to swim in the pond then I'll accept this.
