Welder Matvey Kucherov died during the dismantling of the sports arena of SKK Petersburgsky in St. Petersburg, Russia on January 31, 2020. The incident hit the video. The deceased neglected safety measures, he had to work from the cradle of a tower crane. There are a lot of mentions in the Russian press and YouTube, this is one of the central topics of the day

Having seen the video of this already I'm slightly torn on it, but as a number of people had already pointed out this individual was not wearing a harness and was not tethered to the crane basket he had been working from, both of which are standard safety practice in many countries. If he had used proper safety equipment he may very well be alive today, so that's enough for me to vote for this. Thanks, Alexey.

Sorry, I'm rejecting this for the reason I rejected the first submission; Russia is notorious for its lack of safety protocols or enforcement of them, and there should have been better communication about what work was complete where and how much total progress had been done -which coordination falls on the managers and supervisors.

Slack safety standards disqualify this. The poor fellow had to work under bad conditions and probably didn't have a say in the matter. Thanks just the same!

A person living in a country with lax work safety laws, that a person should double-down on safety. Are we to unfairly award Russians no Darwin Awards? Not in agreement with high standard set by pervious moderators. I vote YES on this MESS... IF TRUE, which the video is so gorgeous I wonder if is a mock up. -Wendy
