DA Booze Cruise Loser

Wendy says, "love your title, Aife Murphy! Added to the Archive."

ORIGINAL SUBMISSION:

A 21 year old man on an evening booze cruise in Boston Harbor decided to perform a handstand off the railing of the 64 meter long Provincetown II. He was first caught and told to get down by boat crew members. He got down but as soon as he got the chance to do it again, he proceeded. His hand stand failed and he went overboard into the dark waters of Boston Harbor. The Provincetown II , as the boat is named, is 64 meters long and can not maneuver like a jet ski. Life savers were thrown yet the man was out of reach. Crew members went into the water to save him yet he went under to his death before they could reach him. He was found by divers later that night in 45 feet of water.

Definitely Keep: Darwin Award
I live in Boston so I've been wondering if this would show up here. After thinking about it for a bit I decided it's worth a nomination despite the fact that we get a lot of stories involving people doing idiotic things when drunk. The deciding factor for me was that this guy ratcheted up the level of stupidity after he was initially warned to stop. From the article: But when the crew member turned to go back inside the boat, DiBella “started in on the even more dramatic form of dangerous play.”
