Cold Case
Police called to a burglar alarm in New Jersey at 1:45am on a bitterly cold Friday night found the front of a liquor store smashed open, but no sign of the offender. CCTV revealed an intruder helping himself to hundreds of dollars worth of booze, fags, and lottery tickets (and a lighter, naturally).
There, the trail went cold, but not for long. Around 45 minutes later a man was discovered peering out from within an eight-foot pile of snow. The concerned cop found George Pesavage Jr., a local 47-year-old, on the brink of death having hidden all that time in the freezing snowpile.
His hands were frostbitten, and hypothermia was setting in as his core body temperature plummeted. His ill-gotten gains lay in a bag at his feet. Bleeding cuts and clothes that were soaked through completed the sorry sight.
The responding officer managed to save him, by way of a handcuffed trip to a warmer environment. George, lacking in gratitude, merely complained that his opportunity to win the lottery had been ruined.
