The Ultimate Tobogan Race

Eupen, Belgium. Usually, this hilly district is of little concern to the rest of the world. The rest of the world certainly ignores is on a daily basis without any fear of missing out on anything much. This all changed on July 15th, 2021. More rain fell in 24 hours than during a whole 5-month summer season. Dams and weirs were about to burst. Our 22-year old subject, whose name is withheld for privacy reasons, welcomed the rains and the exciting patterns on the rising surface of the local river Vesdre as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Quite accurately. Our landlubber rushed indoors, retreived an inflated rubber truck tyre and decided that he could tame the waves, disregardingd warnings of flash floods, landslides and entire villages being swept away by the unprecedented torrents.

He was certainly among the first of hundreds to reach the end of the race.

An inflated truck tire. A TRUCK TIRE. Oh good grief. I thought the mattress one was bad. Thanks, John.

While we get a lot of stories involving people swimming in places they shouldn't this one definitely stands out for the use of a truck tire and disregarding the clear danger involving flash floods. Thanks John!
