Float Your Boat

Three hapless men decided, after seeing British WWII offshore forts on TV, decided that a freezing January day was the perfect time to visit.

Taking two small boats, they headed four miles out to sea iand clambered aboard Red Sands Tower. Having somehow scaled onto the ladderless structure and enjoying a good snoop around, they headed back to their boats only to discover that boats float. Not one but both of their craft had drifted away, undetected.

One would think in the middle of the sea one would securely tie one's means home, but no. Not to fret, however, as they had phone signal to summon help... But were too embarrassed to do so. After spending an entire night in an unheated steel structure in the desolate ocean, somebody saw sufficient sense the next day to phone in and admit what they'd done before running out of battery.

All three survive, with only cold and embarrassment, to sail the briny seas once more. Hopefully next time, somebody will check how to tie a knot first.

It's the "but EMBARRASSING!" that does it for me! Thanks, Iona!

Thanks - I like the fact that they didn't call for help straight away - like it's going to be less embarrassing to do it in the morning!
