Snow Plow Nap

January 29, 2006

A Myrtle Creek man was killed early Friday at Mount Bachelor when a snow removal machine ran over him in the ski resort?s parking lot.

Cameron Joseph Sharp, 18, had camped out overnight in a sleeping bag placed in the parking lot of the resort outside of Bend when a worker clearing the lot of snow struck him at about 4 a.m.

Sharp, a 2005 graduate of South Umpqua High School in Tri City, had gone up to Mt. Bachelor the day before with a group of students from Lane Community College in Eugene, said his older brother, Jason Posey.

Sharp and the other students had spent Thursday snowboarding on Mt. Bachelor. The rest of the students returned home that night, while Sharp remained to take advantage of the resort?s annual free skiing day on Friday. Sharp?s roommates from Eugene had planned to meet up with him Friday and take him home that night, Posey said.

?He was up there doing something he loved. He was an avid snowboarder,? said Posey, a 1990 South Umpqua graduate who now lives in Eugene.

It took authorities some time to identify Sharp. Posey said his brother had recently lost his wallet and did not have any identification on him when he died. The Deschutes County Sheriff?s Office later identified him.

Because of regular snow removal, Mt. Bachelor does not allow overnight camping or parking for unattended vehicles. No tents or vehicles were in the area where Sharp had camped, Carly Carmichael, the resort?s marketing director, said in a release.

After reading the article I'm willing to accept this. It was snowing in the lot where this person was apparently camping, and it didn't occur to him that the ski resort may want to plow the lot because of the snow? He's got nobody to blame but himself. Thanks, Scott. For the other mods: https://www.bendbulletin.com/localstate/man-killed-in-snowplow-accident-at-mt-bachelor/article_12c5d9b2-04ea-523f-8822-e9f575eeb9f4.html
