Off Her Trolly

An honourable mention.

17 YO Tegan Stapleton from Basingstoke, Hampshire, UK had had "a drink" when on her way home from a train station in Bournemouth. When she caught sight of her friend on the opposite platform. Alcohol, as always, is a great way for those weaker genes to be sorted from the pool of life, proceeded to climb down off the platform to cross over to her, where she stepped onto the live rail.

Suffering 10% burns, a heart attack and severe nerve damage to her hand, she is still undergoing surgeries a year later, and is now part of a Network rail campaign to stop other potential Darwin winners.

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
We get a LOT of stories where alcohol is the culprit, and we've had more than a few about general carelessness around railroad tracks, but I think this is the first time I've heard of anything like this. Well, sadder and maybe a trifle wiser, she seems to have learned something. My fellow mods may find this too common or whatever, but I rather like it! Thanks Daryll!

What gets me is the utter sheer carelessness of this alcohol-induced behavior. Most people, even under the influence, even looking frantically for a dropped phone or such, do everything they can to avoid the third rail; their injuries come from the train, not trying to cross the tracks like they're walking down the sidewalk! Thanks Daryl!
