Flying Off The Handle

(Mondulkiri Province, Cambodia) Many might avoid explosives, but 33-year old Pyeul, of the Pnong tribe, decided to use what the average person might avoid to his advantage.

Pyeul was preparing the gunpowder from 30 firecrackers and grenades for blast fishing in his home village of Pou Zam. Although Pyeul had successfully dismantled the explosives, he still needed to prepare them. He drew his knife, and with the blade facing him, used the blunt edge of the hilt to smash the gunpowder.

This was Pyeul's final undoing. The gunpowder combusted, causing injuries to Pyeul's face, hand, and arm. But what really took him down was the knife. With his pounding of the powder taking place with his knife's hilt, the explosion caused the blade to literally fly off the handle, striking Pyeul through the eye and killing him, according to police captain Khai Vannak.

Remember, kids: Blast fishing is dangerous. But it's even more dangerous if you don't know what gunpowder is capable of!

This sounds to me like an exceptional combination of stupidity plus lousy luck, and that to me is perfect for a DA. Thanks, Ros!
