A Drum Role Please.....

Petroleum fumes and a plasma cutter + sealed drum are a bad combination. Mr Christopher Chatfield was making Pheasant feeders at his workshop near Warboys, Cambridgeshire. Having manufactured 6, he sourced oil drums from a local garage to make some more. Unfortunately, not heeding a flash of flame when cutting the first of the drums as a warning sign, the third drum appears to have had a little more petroleum remaining than the first, exploding and causing a 'massive penetrating head injury that would have been instantly fatal'from the lid of the drum. A narrative verdict was recorded by the coroner.

The lesson being an Unpleasant Pheasant Feeder Plasma Phenomenon. Fire and fuel don't mix well in confined spaces. RIP.

While we've had instances of people using welding tools and the like around vapor-filled drums in the past, this one stands out to me because he actually triggered a flash with one drum and was concerned enough according to the article to go inspect his face before continuing. Not heeding that warning and blindly continuing to cut into more drums is more than enough for me to accept this. Thanks!
