Jackson woman struck by vehicle...

The final moments of a Jackson woman's life were captured on social media as she attempted to retrieve her phone off the interstate.

Jackson police said Ashlee Sims, 26, was hit by an oncoming vehicle on Interstate 55 south near Briarwood Drive about 9 p.m. Tuesday.

In a Facebook Live video posted to her Facebook page, Sims is seen singing along to music as she sits in her vehicle on the interstate, frequently looking and talking into the phone.

In several instances, she extends the phone outside the window of the vehicle, when it slips out of her hand and lands on the interstate. A couple minutes go by.

Ashlee Sims, a mother of two children, died Tuesday night after being struck by a vehicle. Still recording, Sims can be heard attempting to retrieve her phone when she lets out a scream and the sound of impact can be heard. The impact is followed by the sound of screeching tires and a horn stuck in place.

For the next minute, someone is heard screaming in the background and "She's gone" is heard before the live feed is shut off.

JPD said Sims was pronounced dead on scene.

The video had been viewed 342,000 times and had 14,000 shares as of Wednesday morning. One comment to Sims page requested people stop sharing the video out of respect to her family.

The Clarion Ledger will not share the graphic video.

Sims had two children who both have upcoming birthdays in August, according to her Facebook page.

There are so many stories like this - totally avoidable - but the fact that the whole thing was captured on film swings it for me!

Googling her name found a few more articles about the incident, some of which indicate the video shows the phone was hit by multiple cars before she attempted to retrieve it. So there was significant traffic in the area. Given that additional detail I'm willing to accept this. Thanks, Michael.
