Paddleboarding Danger

2017 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

In the calmest of waters it still may be deeper than you anticipate. A man rented a paddleboard and rode with a cousin. A paddleboard is tippy enough alone. The kicker? The man didn't know how to swim, but he was bold enough to turn down the free life jacket. As all stories must conclude, ours ends with the paddleboard tipping. Our man falling off and despite heroic efforts to save him, he has been removed from the gene pool via drowning.

When I took my first standup paddleboarding lesson I had to have a life jacket with me. I could wear it or have it strapped onto the board, but it had to be there. That this guy refused to even bring a life jacket with him is more than enough for me to vote for this. Thanks!
