Cleaning the Head
1999 Personal Account

There comes a time in a man's life when he is beset by the will to clean the chemical toilet in his RV. Unfortunately, in this story, the old Open Road RV hadn't been used in many years, and the toilet was nearly solid with waste.

This man considered the problem, and realized that he needed a suitable liquid to pour into the toilet to get it flushing again. In a stroke of brilliance, he promptly poured in a bottle of bleach. It immediately became apparent that this was not the right move, as an expanding cloud of chlorine gas began to fill the RV.

Gasping and choking sounds filled the air as the poor sap struggled with the antiquated back door latch, finally managing, just before passing out, to open it and fall headlong into the outside air.

He survived, having learned a valuable lesson about how body wastes, especially urine, decompose into ammonia, thus supplying a reagent perfectly suited to react with the bleach.

Unfortunately, that guy was me. That which don't kill us, makes us stronger... eventually.
