Train Thief

2013 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Incidents with trains are very commonplace. Dill weeds trying to beat out a train, listening to their music loud enough to drown out a train horn, etc. However, one cleaning lady in Sweden went above and beyond when she elected to steal a train…which smashed into a house. In Sweden, a 20-year old cleaning lady somehow got access to the key needed to start the train and started the train moving in the early AM.

Her first problem occurred when, presumably having no prior train engineer experience, she elected to drive the empty train at high speed. This is where she encountered problem number 2…the end of the track, which was rapidly approaching. Upon seeing this and probably not knowing which lever was the brake, she made her only good choice in judgment…she probably elected to brace for the inevitable impact with the house which would have killed her had she not braced. Somehow, she only suffered serious injuries. This is why I concluded that she probably braced for impact. The homeowner, who was probably thinking a car hit his house, was not hurt. The train was empty at the time. I can only imagine the look on the homeowner’s face when found a train lodged in his house.

Yes, train accidents are quite common, but stealing a train? Never heard of it before.
