All For A Guinness Collectable

2012 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

(18 May 2012, Newfoundland Canada) On the small island of Newfoundland, near the east coast of Canada, its rare to hear of an unusual death or even murder. Therefore, it comes to no surprise that people were shocked to hear of a break and entry gone bad resulting in the death of our Darwin candidate below.

You see, A 26 year old man decided one night to break into a Guinness Gift Shop to steal some collectables. He drove his blue bicycle to the side window for quick entry then quickly went to work.

Using only some small tools and a trusty bicycle for leverage, he opened the window and attempted to climb inside.

Unfortunately for this Guinness lover, he became trapped in the window.

Police were called to the scene after a witness saw the man's body hanging halfway in the window. He was pronounced dead on scene

Brilliant!

Man dies while trying to break into beer-paraphernalia store in St. John’s

National Post May 18, 2012 – 9:12 PM ET

A St. John’s, N.L., man died apparently while trying to break into a beer-paraphernalia store in the city’s west end, appearing to have been trapped in the store window.

Bob Bassett, the owner of the Guinness Warehouse & Gift Shop, told the CBC that “he couldn’t get in. He got wedged in the window.”

The man, 26, was found Friday morning after a witness saw the body and called police. Mr. Bassett, who sells Guinness-branded products at his store, said the man appeared to have been standing on a bicycle, which gave way, “and then he couldn’t get in or back out. It’s unfortunate. He paid the ultimate price for just trinkets, basically,” Mr. Bassett told the CBC.

“To be honest, I wish the guy had gotten in.”

usually we don't even consider criminal activity for Darwin Awards, but this fellow exercised particular creativity in breaking in, so I'm willing to give this poor mook a shot at immortality! Thanks, Jonathan!
