Plane stupid on fuel

A pilot tried to fly a Cessna 310 from Monterey, Califonia to Hilo, Hawaii, a distance of about 2300 miles.

The range of the Cessna 310 is listed as 760 to 1955 miles.

So he started a flight with negative reserve fuel capacity. He ended up in the ocean about 13 miles short. He only gets an honorable mention, as he realized his predicament after the point of no return and was rescued by the coast guard.
