I was out in Iraq with 1st LAR out of Camp Pendleton CA in August of 2005 when a Marine was sent the hospital in Germany for injuries to the back of his legs. Apparently he was told to clean the links that were holding M19 grenade launcher rounds together. After separating and cleaning all the links the Marine was putting them back together but was having difficulties getting the last round into the links. At this time he decided to grab a crescent wrench sitting on the table and use it to hammer the round into place. After about 4 hits he managed to hit the primer and launch the round between his legs and far enough back that he was hit with shrapnel but not killed.
