Police: Man shocked and killed trying to steal copper wire

Related: Electrocution in Charlotte underlines copper theft risks CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police believe a man died while trying to steal copper wire Wednesday evening. According to two other suspects in the theft, Thomas Justice Freeman III was shocked while cutting a live wire with bolt cutters and then fell roughly 30 feet to the ground. It happened along Double Oaks Road. Freeman was taken to Carolinas Medical Center by those suspects and he died at 8:18 p.m. Freeman had injuries consistent with receiving an electrical shock. The suspects told police they met with Freeman earlier in the evening and devised a plan to steal copper wire. Police located a truck at the hospital that had a trailer containing copper wiring. Detectives also processed the crime scene at Double Oaks Road and found that someone had attempted to cut a copper wire there, but was not successful. Detectives are still investigating the case and charges against the two remaining suspects are pending.
