Kiteboarding is very delicate in the Basque country, sector subject to sudden gusts. the young man was practicing his sport in the bay, when, around 12:30, he was swept away by strong wind upward, unable to detach himself from his sail. Despite warnings from experienced people, he has not complied with their advices and did not avoid the edges of beach and some areas of the bay.

The kite surfer was apparently too close to the edge when it was taken by the wind of extreme violence. He was dragged along the Big Beach and struck the pier. He went off, grazing the Grand Hotel situated on the seafront Carry even higher, Adrien Monnoyeur then flew a 4 ways-Boulevard, then he went over a seven floor building (!!!) , hitting passing a chimney . He struck the roof of an adjoining building, before be separated from hisharness and a fall of 15 meters. And died. A witness said : "I was on the phone with a friend outside the window. I was telling him to watch the sea as the storm was when I saw the kitesurfer passing in front of me at breakneck speed" said, very shaken, a resident of the building. She did not understand immediately what was happening. "It was so fast. The space of a second, I even thought I had a hallucination. " She hardly assess how far he was from his bay window as he emerged. He was certainly close enough for her to see her face. "He was a beautiful boy. It's strange, I have not read fear in her face. It was rather an expression of surprise, astonishment, but this is just my feeling. " The presence of buildings along the beach increases the risk of high winds ascending but kitesurfers rookies often ignore the danger.
