The drano man

2010 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

There was at least one potential fatality as a direct result of the flooding. Police said a St. Calixte man, 53, vanished into a flooded culvert after he jumped into the metre-wide opening in an attempt to unclog it late Thursday night. Divers continued to search for the unidentified man throughout the day Friday. St. Calixte is located about 75 kilometres northwest of Montreal.

Although swimming in unsafe waters is entirely too common I think we have a new variation on the behavior here. Jumping into a culvert to unclog it? What on earth was he thinking? Didn't he realize that if he succeeded then all the rushing water would likely suck him right in? Thanks, Richard!
