An unnamed man, age 34, in the Upper Austrian province Innviertel, buildt a vole killing contraption consisting of a lawn-mower and a piece of pipe. The idea was to feed the exhaust gases of the gas-driven lawn mower down the vole ducts to kill them, fixating the drive lever with a piece of cable to keep the motor running. When one mole showed up on the surface, the man reached for it - under the running mower, this manoever costing him parts of the third and fourth finger on the left hand. I suppose now he knows why with this type of mower a lever has to be pressed permanently to keep it going. Unless some master mind goes out of his way to circumvent safety devices. We might soon see labels on lawn-mowers saying, "do not use for extermination purposes".
