BEAUFORT, S.C. — Officials say a South Carolina man who had been warned by a sheriff's deputy about riding a bicycle in the middle of a road at night has died after he was hit by a car. The Beaufort Gazette reported a sheriff's deputy had stopped 21-year-old Detron Jenkins late Tuesday as he peddled down a road on a bike with no lights or reflectors, while wearing all-black clothes. A sheriff's report says Jenkins told the deputy he was riding to his mother's house about 8 miles away. LINK: http://www.beaufortgazette.com Highway Patrol Cpl. Paul Brouthers says Jenkins was hit about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday by a car driven by a 21-year-old Beaufort woman. Brouthers says the woman will not be charged.
