Springville man dies in glider cras

This happened less than half a mile away from my house.

The guy had less than two city blocks of grass field behind the junior high school to take off in his ultra-light. He was going to take off to the south, but the wind changed directions, so he took off to the north, and didn't seem to care about the multiple rows of power lines going from 12-20 feet in the air. he hit the power lines,crashed on the sreet, and died instantly.

This caused me to be without power for HALF THE DAY!

According to the article this was his first attempt at flying the ultralight. Doing so in such a confined space is the height of stupidity as far as I'm concerned. He should have practiced in a more open area first so he'd know just how quickly it would gain altitude, how fast it would fly, etc. Thanks, Russell.
