CALGARY - A Calgary man has been flown by air ambulance to hospital after a near electrocution north of Strathmore.

The 47-year-old was launching model rockets in a rural area outside of the community when one of them was tangled in a power line, said Wheatland EMS spokesman Kevin Link.

The victim climbed a ladder to retrieve the model when he was jolted.

Link said the man was taken by ambulance to Strathmore where he was then picked up by STARS and transported to Calgary in critical condition. © Copyright (c) The Calgary Herald

Looked this up, then googled. Moron climbed up a metal ladder to get the rocket, then tried to poke it off the line with a rod or stick. A high tension power line. Eight meters off the ground. Apparently he left his brain behind when he climbed. Thanks, and submit again!

At first I was inclined to toss this as too common since we get lots of stories about people electrocuting themselves while cutting down trees, climbing up roofs, climbing telephone poles to fix/steal cable tv, etc. But it sounds like this guy went above and beyond by taking on a high tension power line with a stick. Thanks!
