Deputy killed by train was drunk

The death of a Baldwin Co. sheriff's investigator struck and killed by a train in January was accidental, according to state medical examiner's report received by the Press-Register this week. He was extremely intoxicated at the time, the report added.

Deputy Michael Malone, 33, died Jan. 17 while on a weekend hunting trip in Eutaw, Al. about 167 miles north of Mobile.

The report stated that Malone had suffered mulitple blunt force injuries and had acute alcohol intoxication when he died about 4 p.m. According the the report, the train engineer saw Malone seated in a chair on the railroad tracks and sounded the horn, but Malone never moved.

Malone's blood alcohol level was 0.231 at the time of his death.

I'm usually the first one to toss out train/pedestrian collisions as being too common since there are thousands of such incidents a year, but this one sounds unique enough to me to qualify. Passing out drunk in a chair on railroad tracks? What was this dolt thinking? Thanks for sending the story in!
