"BENALMADENA - A MOROCCAN immigrant died when the engine of the lorry he was travelling on illegally caught fire at kilometre 220 of the A-7 motorway last week. The lorry had come from Tangiers to Algeciras and was travelling through Malaga province on its way to Germany when the accident occurred. The driver noticed smoke and stopped the vehicle but was unable to put out the fire.

He heard calls for help coming from the engine but could do nothing to help the victim. His burned body was found with some personal documents. The event caused traffic to be stopped in both lanes heading to Malaga. The German driver was unharmed, but shocked and upset to learn the fate of the illegal immigrant.

He said that he didn’t know how he could have hidden in the engine compartment, as the lorry, which was carrying textile products made in Morocco, had been checked by customs officers both in Morocco and upon arrival in Spain. The National Police and Guardia Civil are investigating, and attempting to identify the victim."
