Police note that besides mechanical failure, the wet conditions may have contributed to the motorist lost control of vehicle

Luis Cruz

Mexico City (19 February 2010) .- The last thing he noticed two men before the Mini Cooper they were riding in suffered a rollover accident that killed the driver, was a sound from the front of the vehicle on which they had minutes before being warned by a mechanic.

By 10:30 hours yesterday, Gilberto Munoz Rodriguez and Edgar Valdez went to a garage, near Colonia Torres de Mixcoac, to collect the vehicle that led to days before a general review.

Upon delivery, the warden of the men said that the hinges of the Mini Cooper, which allow the movement of the tires, should be changed because its wear was dangerous to drive in that state, said a police command capital.

"They had just left the garage, took the car to fix several things but were told that the hinges did not work, do not dirve the car, because it's was very dangerous," said the police chief.

Despite the suggestion of the mechanic, Munoz Rodriguez, 28 years old, started the engine and took the middle lanes of the Boulevard Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, toward the Glorieta de San Jeronimo. (important to notice that This lane is a highspeed way, if your advised by a mechanic about not driving a car I think this makes a really worthy award recipent)

Valdez, age 38, told authorities that when taking a curve at the height of Mills Avenue heard that something was broken near the front wheels.

It was then that Munoz Rodriguez lost control and after climbing the ridge that divides the middle lanes of the sides, turned on the bicycle path and crashed into a pillar of the second floor of Peripherals.

"He said (the passenger) than when they heard that thundered something were to come back but at that time were taking the curve and could no longer fight, get up on the sidewalk and crash into the wall," said the leadership of the SSP -DF.

The driver suffered severe blows to the head and although he was treated by paramedics for Civil Protection of Álvaro Obregón, bruises caused her death.

As for Valdez, was transferred to the Territorial Coordination Álvaro Obregón 1 wherein continued performing until his statement yesterday.

At the time of the accident, police explained Silversmiths Sector, rain was recorded yesterday morning left the floor wet, which could help the victim could not maintain control of the vehicle.

The accident occurred on the same artery at the height of the Colony Nonoalco in the Benito Juárez.

What idiots! Getting into a car that a mechanic just told them is unsafe? I'm foregoing the "hurt bystander" rule for the passenger in this one since he willingly got into that deathtrap along with the driver. Thanks!

I must concur with Bruce in this case. Apparently, the passenger had no second thoughts! This is first-class stupidity!
