BATANGAS – Two businessmen died when they figured in a gun duel after having a spat over a parking space near their establishments in Nasugbu town Thursday evening, police said.

Nasugbu police chief Superintendent Antonio Malabanan identified the two fatalities as Ronaldo Cabral, 39, owner of Veranda Restobar and Francisco Credito, 41, an overseas contract worker and owner of Jordan’s Grill Restaurant. Both establishments are located along Apacible Boulevard, Barangay Buana, Nasugbu, Batangas.

Cabral sustained a gunshot wound on his underarm while Credito suffered two bullet wounds on his chest. Both died while being treated at the Nasugbu Doctor’s Hospital.

According to reports, Credito was about to enter his establishment when Cabral’s car was partially blocking the way, prompting the former to confront the latter around 11:15 p.m. Subsequently, the two had a heated argument that led to a fistfight, witnesses said. Thereafter, the two were momentarily pacified by bystanders but both reportedly ran to their respective cars, pulled out their guns and shot each other.

Credito reportedly had a fight with his wife before proceeding to his establishment located just beside Cabral’s restaurant.

“Mukhang maiinit na ang ulo nung dalawa bago pa sila magkatagpo sa harap ng kanilang mga restaurant,” a police investigator said. (Darwin adds, this appears to say, "It seems two hot heads collided in front of the restaurant.")

Apparently this happened in the Philippines! Usually I would toss any gunshot incident as either too common or showing no self-selection, but I think this is a unique (and cartoony) case of road rage on crack. The fact that they were temporarily pacified by bystanders pretty much tells me that their priorities were skewed. Finally, the fact that each was killed by the other adds to the twisted nature of this incident! In a situation where both parties choose to confront each other in anger over something so trivial, there MUST be more than mere anger involved. I will vote DA, though my fellow mods may choose to zap this. Thanks, Chimmy!

I'll go along with James on this. The kicker for me, along with the fact that they were temporarily pacified, is that they managed to kill each other in the exact same way without injuring anybody else. Thanks, Chimmy!
