2009 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Wendy/Darwin says, "Accepted into the Archive."

ORIGINAL SUBMISSION:

A native 24 years old woman got killed in Quebec city while trying to catch the bus she just missed.

The woman was running right next to the 45 feet monster hoping to halt the bus who left on time!

As she tried her best to get noticed, she failed to notice herself that the bus was making a swift turn and got crushed to death by the bus.

Instead of going home in a crowded bus, she instead enjoy the luxury of a hearse.

Report from CBC.ca

Quebec City bus incident kills woman
Last Updated: Friday, August 14, 2009 | 12:42 PM ET
CBC News

A 24-year-old woman was run over and killed by a bus she was trying to catch at a Quebec City station late Thursday afternoon. A witness, Gilles Daigle, said he saw the woman leaving the station carrying a can of pop, and screaming for the bus to stop as it was pulling out of the parking lot.

But, he said, she tripped and fell under the wheels.

Police are not releasing the woman's name until her family has been notified, but they said she is not from Quebec.

Daigle said that during the 25 years he drove a public transit bus, he saw at least five people die the same way. He said people don't realize the driver cannot hear over the sound of the engine.

Sylvain Cote drives a taxi now, but used to be a nurse. He went over to see if there was anything he could do for the woman. But, he said, it was obvious she was dead. Cote said the woman's entire body and head had fallen under the wheels.

A spokeswoman for the bus company said the woman should never have been in the parking lot. She said it was an unfortunate accident, but it happened in a restricted area. She said there are no plans to increase security in the area.

I think this needs a much better write up, but I havent seen the story before. There is a better link for the story : http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/2009/08/14/bus-fatal.html According to the report she was also in a restricted area when she got run over. I do think she was certainly stupid to do this. I am kind of torn only because of a lacking write up.

I thought we'd gotten stories similar to this but haven't had any luck finding any in the archives. I'm a bit borderline on this sort of thing being too common but I'll accept it since Shadow found a decent reference and the woman was in a restricted area. Thanks.

I think there are exactly two stories of this type in the archives, and they're both different enough from this. Considering that -unable to drive- I take the bus a LOT, I know that in most transit centers you'd have to do something really _really_ REALLY stupid to get squished by one! Thanks!
