Man Dragged by Train in Toronto

Josh Pringle Monday, July 13, 2009

Toronto Police say a man called 911 as he was being dragged by a freight train through Toronto's west-end.

The 28-year-old man suffered severe injuries to his lower leg after being dragged six kilometres on Sunday.

Police say it appears the victim and two friends were trespassing in a train yard and had climbed onboard one of the cars of a stationary train.

When the train started moving, the two friends were able to jump off.

Police say the victim slipped, and his leg fell through some sort of a platform and he couldn't get free.

The man called 911 from the train using his own cellphone, and police were able to call to have the train stopped.

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
While the vast majority of train related stories we receive involve people getting hit by oncoming trains, I think this is the first case of somebody getting injured by trespassing and ending up getting caught by a train. Thanks, Pat!
