2 Electrocuted During Wire Theft

SAN JACINTO, Calif. (AP) ― Two men were found electrocuted in the Riverside County city of San Jacinto after a fire broke out near a utility transformer, and authorities believe they were attempting to steal wire.

The Sheriff's Department says police responded to reports of a possible fireworks near the electrical transformer about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday and found a fire burning.

A small section of San Jacinto also was blacked out at the time.

The bodies were located when the fire was put out and a preliminary investigation indicated the men were accidentally electrocuted during an attempted theft.

Power has been restored to residents affected by the blackout.
