People stay on Exploding Boat

2009 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

The crew who put the explosives in the boat to create an artifical reef stay on the boat as it explodes. This happened in Australia and was caught on camera, and shown on the show Destroyed in Seconds on the The Discovery Channel. The reason they stayed on the boat was stated on the video as something along the lines of they did not realize how much power the explosives would actually have. No one died, however they were injured and I think this should be a Honoree/Close Call. My first thought was future Darwin Award winners. My second thought, if you don't know how much power the explosion will have then you should probably not play with explosives. While I was unable to find the video on the discovery website, I did find it on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9wxRM0qEKU# I submit this for you to view.

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
Ummm...the boat was deliberately blown up to create an artificial reef. That means enough explosives to open lots of holes to make sure it sinks. And how many brains does it take to NOT stay on a boat that's sinking or one that's being blown up!?! Rational thought check: explosives+ship+sinking=don't be on the ship! Sheesh! And considering that everyone would have been informed that the ship was going to be sunk (thank you, regs) I can't count anyone as a bystander. Thanks, Michaella, and submit again!

I recall seeing this on tv a few months ago. These people claimed to be explosives experts but obviously they won't or the would have known better then to remain on the ship so close to the explosives.
