ORIGINAL SUBMISSION:

23-year-old Strahinja Raseta, one of the members of the team that pulled off the spectacular robbery of the Split post office earlier this year, died on Sunday in hospital in the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

On Saturday evening, Raseta attempted to plant an explosive device under his friend, Milan Mitic's jeep, but ended up killing himself.

The Press reports that, although Raseta and Mitic were friends, Raseta's €15,000 debt towards Mitic drove him to murder.

Raseta waited for his target to show up. When Mitic did not appear, he decided to plant the explosive under his jeep. However, the muffler was not yet cool, and the heat of the exhaust system set off the explosive.

Raseta died the following morning in hospital.

Darwin found an implication that the deceased was a murderer hiding in Serbi: EU POLICE MISSION http://www.eupm.org/Details.aspx?ID=802&TabID=5

Investigation into East Sarajevo murders: Arrest warrant for Djordje Zdrale to be issued soon. Dnevni Avaz, 17 May, pg 17- The investigation into several murders that happened in East Sarajevo in past few years continues. The murder of Boris Govedarica has been solved, but the suspects Strahinja Raseta and Milan Mitic are hiding in Serbia. Few days before he was killed, Govedarica was interrogated in relation to the murder of Mladen Ceho and Marijana Kovacevic. Djordje Zdrale was allegedly also interrogated in relation to the double murder but released due to a lack of evidence. The arrest warrant for him will be issued as soon as the police compile concrete evidence against him. His rivals led by Darko Elez are now under investigation of Croatian police too as they are being connected to a multi-million robbery of Split Post Office.

Split Post Office Robber: Killed by own car-bomb set for friend

23-year-old Strahinja Raseta, one of the members of the team that pulled off the spectacular robbery of the Split post office earlier this year, died on Sunday in hospital in the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

On Saturday evening, Raseta attempted to plant an explosive device under his friend, Milan Mitic's jeep, but ended up killing himself. The Press reports that, although Raseta and Mitic were friends, Raseta's EU 15,000 debt towards Mitic drove him to murder.

Raseta waited for his target to show up. When Mitic did not appear, he decided to plant the explosive under his jeep. However, the muffler was not yet cool, and the heat of the exhaust system set off the explosive.

Raseta died the following morning in hospital.

Strahinja Raseta was a member of the organized criminal group from Sapac. He was wanted by Croatian authorities for his participation in the robbery of Split's central post office. o

After the robbery, Raseta hid in Belgrade for months, but was arrested in June of this year. Raseta was considered a dangerous criminal, whom they linked to the murders of Goran Mijatevic and Vojislav Jekic, the former chief of police, as well as for the murder of Boris Govedarica and the attempted murder of Dordje Zdral.

This certainly isn't your typical car-bomber story, so I'll gladly accept it. I wonder how they figured out that the hot exhaust pipe triggered the bomb though...

I agree with Bruce. And I do know (from reading!) that some explosives are heat sensitive...
