A 36-year-old Rockmart, Ga., man is dead after authorities say he tried to cut copper cable from a Georgia Power Co. pole.

Floyd County police investigator Sabrina Hall identified the victim as Derek Charles Siniard. The incident happened at about 6 a.m. Saturday on Rush Chapel Road. Recent headlines:

* Colonial seeks Cobb pipeline approval

* McCain to campaign Thursday in Georgia for Chambliss

• Metro and state news

Hall says Siniard collapsed while cutting the line. An autopsy is planned to determine how the victim died. Hall says two females took the victim to Floyd Medical Center.

A second Rockmart man, 39-year-old Stephen Kyle Williams, was later arrested on two felonies and two misdemeanors in the incident. He was taken to Floyd County Jail.

Police say they recovered night-vision gear and wire-cutting equipment.
