A 43-YEAR-old man has died from head injuries after falling from a boat being towed by a four-wheel drive at Dawesville, south of Perth.

Police say the man, from Leschenault near Bunbury, was one of two people sitting in the boat when it fell off the trailer while being towed along Recreation Road in Dawesville, just before 6pm (WST) yesterday.

The boat was being towed by a Landrover car, police said.

"As the driver negotiated the corner ... the boat has tipped off the trailer sending both men onto the carriageway," Inspector Trevor Davis said today.

"The 43-year-old man sustained massive head injuries and later died in hospital."

The Major Crash section in Perth will investigate the incident.

Riding in a boat while it's BEING TOWED!?!?! How dumb can you get?...nevermind. Thanks, Tracy!

Maybe Toss: Lacks Excellence
In theory I can see why Candi would nominate this one, but in practice, I am VERY ambivalent. There isn't enough detail to determine whether this was a "short hop" (ie to the boat launch), or whether these fellows took a longer trip. I will pass, but thanks just the same, Tracy!

While I originally had the same feelings as James I decided to take a look at where this happened. Google maps shows that the area of the accident is numerous blocks from any water, so these folks were riding in the boat when they shouldn't have. Towing a boat on a trailer, even when done right, can be tricky given that it can shift suddenly if not properly secured. The added weight of two people who may move around and change the center of gravity on the trailer is NOT a good thing. Thanks, Tracy.
