Electrocuted whilst stealing cable

Bahraini electrocuted

POLICE yesterday confirmed that a Bahraini teenager, whose body was found on wasteland in Hamad Town, died after being electrocuted.

Public Security deputy chief and CID acting director-general Brigadier Tariq bin Dayna said Abbas Al Aradi was killed when he tried to steal electricity cables with two accomplices.

The 18-year-old's body was found dumped near roundabout 17 on Monday night - only four days after he celebrated his birthday.

Death

Brig Bin Dayna also confirmed that Mr Al Aradi's two accomplices had been arrested.

"They were arrested as they were the last people to be seen in Abbas Al Aradi's company before his tragic death," he said in a statement.

Brig Bin Dayna said the men claimed the teenager was electrocuted after climbing a lamppost to cut a cable.

"When they realised that he was dead after trying to rescue him, they dumped his body near the roundabout before escaping," he said.

Brig Bin Dayna added the men would be kept in custody for seven days while investigations continue.

Mr Al Aradi's family were earlier forced to bury their son amid rumours that he may have been murdered.

His mother and widow Rabab Abdulaziz told the GDN on Tuesday she would not rest until she knew the truth.

Sister Amal, 15, described Abbas, from Malkiya, as a calm and shy person who never caused anyone trouble.

We haven't had any electrocuted copper thief stories in a little while. Although way too common, Darwin does like collecting them. Thanks, Paul.
