Ax that spider!

2008 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

This is a snippet from german news:

A spider hunt came to an curious end when a 37 yr old man used an ax to make short work of the long-legged unsuspecting animal which was sitting on the ceiling of his hobby room.

However, instead of the invading culprit he hit and cut an electric cable beneath the lining.

To make a long story short: Fire fighters had to extinguish the resulting smouldering fire.

The whereabouts of the spider and its condition are unknown.

Sadly the ax-wielding arachnophobic doesn't qualify for a full Darwin ;-)

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
Even the most chronic arachnophobes have a resource readily available to them. It's called insecticide, and it is readily available just about anywhere in the civilized world. Aside from the obvious overkill, it should be made clear that the household current in Europe has a voltage nearly twice that found in the USA, so this fellow is rather lucky! An amusing enough visual for consideration!

Yes, let's get this guy a can of bug spray before that spider shows up again and he does even more damage. Thanks for sending this in!
