MIDWEST CITY (Oklahoma) — A man who accidentally set himself on fire while working on his lawnmower has died.

Vance Riley, 59, Midwest City, died about 11 a.m. today in the burn center at Integris Baptist Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. About 75 percent of his body was burned, the spokeswoman said.

Riley was injured late Monday while working on a lawnmower in the living room of his home at 516 Foster Place. Investigators believe fumes from gasoline he was using as a solvent absorbed into his clothing and ignited when he used a cigarette lighter, said Jerry Lojka, spokesman for the fire department.

Riley's neighbor, Steve Edwards, 38, said he ran across the street and threw Riley on the ground when he saw the man was on fire. He used his own body to smother the flames.

Edwards, a bricklayer, is recovering at home from second- and third-degree burns after trying to save Riley.

"The fire department extends its condolences to Mr. Riley's family and friends," Lojka said. "Firefighters are always saddened when someone in our community is injured or dies as a result of a fire."

Link checks out- at least for now! :-) This was stupid. It brings to mind the lady who cleaned sneakers with gas in her livingroom and the guy who worked on his _motorcycle_ in the same location. But it's not that funny, and it could use a better write-up.

Gasoline makes an excellent cleaner and solvent. It works much better in the presence of flames though. Cleans the gene pool really well. Thanks for the story.

While I agree with Candi that this is a pretty unfunny write-up, the stupidity is certainly there, and how! Thanks!
