Not That Clever

2008 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

In a science lesson recently, a youth got his hands on a paperclip, and decided to impress his friends. So, he unwound the clip, and rammed it in a plug socket. However, he failed to ensure that the socket's switch was off.

Nobody noticed the resulting reaction, as there appeared to be no abnormalties in his actions. However, shortly afterwards the computer in the classroom shorted out, tripping the circuit, and releasing the idiot from a large, longer-than-usual electric shock. He was hospitalised for his injury and fortunately survived, but what made this such a strange occurance was the fact that he overlooked common sense, was 16, was taking a GCSE course in Triple Science, was a brighter person and it was not the first time such an occurance had happened at the school in question-a similar accident had occured several years before.

I'll vote to keep this as a PA since at 16 and in a science class he certainly should have known better. Thanks for the story.

Not the first time a supposedly intelligent person has done something supremely dumb. There's a few other somewhat similar cases in the archives. I'll let the other moderators make the call.

Definitely a keeper. Long on intelligence, short on common sense. Thanks
