ACCEPTED INTO THE ARCHIVE
Original Submission:

I think this is a contender out today from a Coroner's Court verdict in UK UK News of the World newspaper Sunday 28 Oct 07 page 31: "DIY FAN HANGED "A DIY fanatic accidentally hanged himself with a device he made to ease his wife's neck pain, an inquest heard. "Grandfather John Burton, 71, made the traction machine for wife Joyce but was found dead in his shed in Hayling Island, Hants, after trying it himself. "She removed the wood and rope device but it was too late. "Verdict: Misadventure."

Need I say more!!!!

Giles, the story is short, concise and worthy of an award in my opinion. Thanks.

When it comes to chronic neck pain I think I'd trust a doctor or chiropractor LONG before I'd trust a DIY'er for a cure. Thanks for sending this in, Giles!

Darwin Awards II: Unnatural Selection

A fresh collection of magnificent misadventures! Lust, Vanity, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Envy, and Wrath extract an evolutionary toll on the wicked. Witness the man who becomes a victim of his own strange passion for jumping into rivers. Heed the honest bricklayer who loses a battle of wits with 300 pounds of tools.

This book includes more History of the Awards, Gordon's Law, and 10 discussions of evolution, including speciation and the role of verbal memes in civilization.
