Theif struck by train

2007 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

A 22 year old man was struck and killed by a train while attempting to drag (not ride) a moped across the tracks at 3:30 in the morning. He apparently stole the moped at a bar he left moments earlier. Police were investigating the theft at the bar when they received reports of the accident. It is unclear why he did not respond to the warning blast of train horn. Three quarters of the train passed over him before it came to a stop. He died of quote "massive multi-system trauma".

Neutral: Darwin Award
I still think most train collision stories these days border on too common since there are literally thousands of such incidents every year in the US. I'll defer this to my fellow moderators. Thanks for sending it in.

Definitely Toss: Lacks Excellence
This sort of story is a bit too common, and this particular one lacks the excellence I like to see. Perhaps a more detailed report will yield more drama! Thanks just the same, we appreciate it!

Definitely Keep: Darwin Award
I agree with Bruce that these are very common, but the fact that he was DRAGGING a moped across puts this one a bit above, in my opinion. Thanks for the story.

Definitely Keep: Darwin Award
I agree with Chip, the fact he ws dragging the bike rather then riding it is a determinor here. He could have dropped the thing and got out of the way in time likely! Thank you for submitting!
