Construction worker killed during bathroom break Published: Saturday, October 06, 2007 CALGARY -- A female construction worker who had crouched behind an earth-mover to relieve herself was killed this week when the vehicle's driver dumped a load of earth on her.

"Unknown to the male driver who had re-entered his vehicle to resume his work, the female was either in or around the area of his earth-mover bucket," said Barrie Harrison, spokesman for the woman's employer, Kidco Construction Ltd.

"When he dumped his load of earth, he discovered the woman's body," Harrison said, calling the accident an "extremely strange yet tragic incident."

Occupational Health and Safety investigators were checking to see if Kidco had enough portable washrooms on site, Harrison said.

The accident occurred in the new suburb of Copperfield under development southeast of Calgary, shortly after two employees, a man and woman, took a break.

"Our early investigations show there are (portable washrooms) on site, that they were several hundred metres from where these two had stopped for their break," Harrison added.

The investigation is expected to take a number of months.

Reproduction - yup, she's dead, and out of the pool. Excellence - crouching behind heavy equipment at an active construction site AND not telling anyone (like, um, the operator of said equipment) is really, really, dumb. Self - selection: okay, maybe not, but see the above, she was at least the major co-author of her demise. Veracity: This story is probably available elsewhere but canada.com is a legitimate news outlet.

Off to Darwin for the details. Uh, the investigation is expected to take several MONTHS??? Didn't the fact that her pants were down tell the whole story? Thanks for the submission, paul
