Train and Lawnchair Man

2007 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

Train Kills Man In Lawnchair Sunday, September 23, 2007 WBAL Radio as reported by Leonard Roberts

Baltimore County police say a 45-year-old Baltimore man was hit by a train and killed as he sat on a lawnchair on the tracks.

It happened around 8 p.m. Saturday near Martin Boulevard in Rosedale.

Police say the man was visiting his brother, who is homeless and hangs out at a camping spot near the train tracks.

They say the conductor spotted the man sitting on a lawnchair on the tracks and said he did not appear to realize a train was coming.

Police are calling the incident an accident

Definitely Keep: Darwin Award
My initial reaction to reading this was that the guy might have been suicidal or just plain nuts but given the police decision and the statement from the conductor I'll go DA on this one. Thanks, Henry!

Of ALL the places to sit! What happened to sitting BY the tracks?! I'll go DA here. Simple and stupid to the point!

Darwin Awards III: Survival of the Fittest

Hardback. 304 pages. Autographed.
$15
The human race's most popular humor series returns with a brand-new collection of macabre mishaps and misadventures. Honoring those who improve our gene pool by inadvertently removing themselves from it, the Darwin Awards III shows once more how uncommon common sense still is.

Salute the sheriff who inadvertently shot himself--twice! Witness the insurance defrauder who amputated his leg with a chainsaw! Heed the story of the farmer who avoided bee stings by sealing his head in a plastic bag! Cringe at the man crushed by a branch he'd just severed... directly over his head!

123 new stories, 18 full-page illustrations, plus discussions of transgenic animals, the origin of life, and more.

Autographed by Author!
