A new "twist" on dancing...

(30 August 2007, Kansas City, Missouri) Tired neighbors were roused from their warm beds by blaring music that just would not stop. They staggered sleepily into the street, where a car was rocking with loud music, and a man was speaking with a police officer. The officer explained the situation to the pajama-clad crowd.

Two women and a man had been cruising around after a long night of partying, when the ladies decided to dance, dance, dance in the street. That decision was not very sensible, but their next decision was very nearly fatal. They failed to set the parking brake!

The car began to move. It slowly but inexorably rolled over both dancers. The male passenger (a back seat driver) climbed over the front seat and braked the car before it inflicted further damage.

The passenger was hospitalized with head injuries. The driver, who obviously suffered from head problems, too, fled the scene. Sgt. Jim Fuller remarked, "I will be blunt. That's really stupid. It doesn't show much common sense whatsoever."

ORIGINAL SUBMISSION:

Neighbors at the area of 75th and Troost in Kansas City, Missouri, were roused out of their beds by blaring music that had not stopped for a long while now. As they got out of bed and went out to the street to see just what was going on, they were surprised to find a man speaking with police. The investigators in charge calmly explained to the small crowd what had happened.

Two women and a man were driving around at night after a long night of partying, when the two women (who, according to authorities, were most likely drunk) decided to get out of the car and dance to their loud, blaring music in the middle of the street, in front of their car... the only problem was, the two females started dancing WITHOUT parking the car first. The driver's car rolled over both the driver and her female passenger. The passenger in the back seat (the male) managed to climb up front and stop the car before any more serious injuries were inflicted. An officer happened to be driving by and noticed the accident and stopped to help. The female passenger was put in the hospital with injuries to her head, and the driver fled the scene, leaving the male with them to deal with police.

"2 Women Run Over By Car While Dancing In Street Police Said Driver Fled The Scene

POSTED: 7:53 am CDT August 30, 2007 UPDATED: 8:12 am CDT August 30, 2007

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Two women were run over by a car while they danced in the street at 75th Street and Troost Avenue, police said. One of the victims was the driver of the car.

Investigators said the woman driving the car got out along with a passenger and started dancing. Officers said the car was not in park and started to roll. The car hit the women. A passenger in the back seat jumped into the driver's seat and stopped the car.

An officer on patrol spotted the accident and stopped to help. Police said the woman driving the car ran off. The passenger was taken to a hospital with head injuries. Investigators said alcohol was likely involved in the accident.

KMBC's Maria Antonia reported that the women may have been what's called ghost riding, which is where people get out of a moving car and dance alongside it or climb on top of it. Videos of youth ghost riding have been posted on YouTube.

KMBC asked the passenger if the women were ghost riding, and he said, "If that's what you want to call it."

"Oh yeah, that's really stupid. I will be that blunt," Sgt. Jim Fuller said. "It doesn't show much common sense whatsoever. Anytime you're playing with a 2,000- to 4,000-pound vehicle you can get hurt. Bad things happen when you're messing with a moving vehicle."

Just thought you'd get a kick out of this. Hopefully it'll make Honorable Mention since it doesn't fit some of the criteria! :)

Definitely Keep: Honorable Mention
Thanks for sending this in, Emily! Needless to say, this is a new "twist" (no pun intended, I'm sure it was some other dance) on the ol' "get out in front of your still-moving car" gag! I cannot believe that BOTH women would be so stupid! It is a good thing whoever was in the back was on top of things. I wonder WHO the designated driver was here! Definite HM from me!

The only thing that would have made this funnier would have been for the two partiers to have decided to make it a strip dance, but no such luck. Thanks for sending the story, Emily. I got a chuckle from this and agree with James on the Honorable Mention.
