Drifting

2007 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

"Drifting" is an emerging motorsport from Japan. In drifting, the driver power-slides a car around a corner at high speed. The greater the angle of the slide (how far the rear is hung out), the higher the speed, and the more smoke pouring off the tires, the better. Drifting is well established as a professional motorsport in Japan, where the majority of the preferred cars come from, and is exploding in America. Drifting is a sport that takes plenty of skill, and is best performed on a closed circuit.

Two facts which a 23-year old man did not realize, or have at hand.

Attempting to impress his girlfriend during the early hours of the morning, he demonstrated his drifting prowess in his Chevy Cavalier. After dropping her off at the side of his makeshift drift course, he proceeded to continue sliding the small car, eventually crashing through a fence.

In normal circumstances, this is not a spectacularly stupid decision. However, he chose to show off his car control skills in a parking deck.

Six stories above the ground.

The front bumper remained caught in the fence, while the rest of the car plummeted six stories into a dumpster, where he was found conscious, but bleeding heavily.

The driver was rushed to a hospital, and faces many charges, including DUI, reckless driving, and criminal damage to property.

It is unknown whether the driver's girlfriend was impressed with his driving.

Six stories into a dumpster, eh? I imagine his girlfriend may be re-evaluating their relationship! I know I wouldn't be impressed (hell, I'd be shaking in my boots if he were to ask me to ride with him)! Anyway, a very cartoony and spectacular HM! Thanks, Daniel! (BTW there's a picture of the wreck in the provided link)

She may not be impressed with his driving, but I bet she was impressed that he survived the fall. I doubt that's enough to keep her though. Thanks, Daniel!
