Gas and Flames Surprise

I heard this from a friend, so I have no verification, but this seems too plausible to ignore. She and her brother have a bonfire pit just down over the hill, next to a pond. He unscrewed the spout on a can of lighter fluid(notice the genius so far) and poured half the can on a stack of wood in the pit, then lit it. He was holding the can between his legs and screwing the spout back on, while still standing over the now blazing logs. My friend warned him that the can was going to catch fire, but he wouldn't listen. Sure enough, fluid came out of the spout and started buring it. My friend warned him that it was on fire, but he still refused to listen. She ripped the spout from his hands and through it into the pond. His response? "Why didn't you just throw the whole can into the lake?" First smart thing he said all night.

I'm not sure I fully understand what's described here. The spout started burning while he was screwing it back onto the can, and she grabbed the spout and threw it into the water instead of the whole can? If he'd already started screwing it on then it would have been difficult for her to grab it without grabbing the entire can, wouldn't it? In any event, it's an amusing story. I can almost visualize this guy holding a burning can between his legs. Thanks for sending this in!

That is rather funny, seeing as my wife has a bonfire pit at her parents property (on Lake Ontario, upstate NY) and the fellow described could have easily been her brother (though he hasn't put a can pf lighter fluid between his legs...yet)! Yes, I can relate! I'll keep it as a PA! :-)

I agree with Bruce. While I had a hard time visualizing this, it is worthy of including as a personal account. Thanks, Chewka.
