I lived in an urban/country suburb of South Australia when this story happened. As i had lost my licence for DWI i had to walk to the pub (around 2km) down a very large hill.

One night i walked down the hill to have a little drinking session at the pub, and bought a 6 pack to go on with at home.

As i was walking back up the hill a car passed me close to a bend and immediately pulled over to the left of the road and i saw a dust storm in front of the cars head lights.

Before i could do anything, a car came rolling horizontally down the hill, right in my path.

I had nowhere to go, but i calmly placed my 6 pack (which now had 5 in it) and my open beer on the ground and waited for the inevitable.

But to my surprise the car came to rest around 5 metres before me in a hail of dust. I immediately ran to the car to see if the driver was ok, but to my surprise there was no driver. I was a little bit freaked when i heard some moaning.

I found the sound and found the driver, highly intoxicated, lying on the ground asking about the fate of his car, which i assured him was a write off, but he seemed to be ok.

When the police attended the scene(around 30 minutes later) the driver was not at the scene, but around 500 metres down the road stumbling to his final destination.

I am not certain of the fate of the driver, he may actually qualify, but at least i took myself out of the Darwin Award contenders by never walking up that hill again.

As no-one was actually injured, Adam, we have no kind of nomination for this story other than a personal account. It is funny though, so thanks for submitting it.

I don't quite know what to make of this, but it is apparent that BOTH of you were seeing pink elephants that night! Bizarre and amusing enough to share with the readers, even though there's really no explanation for the hurt driver's actions (and perhaps no stupidity)!

I don't see much in this other than a common story of two drunks encountering each other in the night. Sorry. But thanks for the story, Adam
