2006 Reader Submission
Pending Acceptance

On October 20, my husband, Jim, was scheduled for an echocardiogram at our local hospital. Upon arrival, he had the preliminary baseline echo cardiogram and was being connected to the electrocardiogram for the stress test when he had a miocardiac infarction(a heart attach). The technicians were astounded and immediately called the cariologist, who told Jim "Well, I see you were upset about having this test, so I have good news and bad news. The good news is that you don't have to take the test. The bad news is you need to be medivaced to the nearest cath-lab ASAP." After meeting with his regular Dr. Jim decided he was more nervous about flying in a helicopter than he was about having a heart attack and told his Dr. that he would go by auto. He then proceeded to drive to the nearest cath-lab, at a hospital approximately 115 miles away. After arriving safely, he stated to his wife that he had felt fine until he got in the local traffic of the city, but no way would he let her (or anyone else) drive. He had a catherization within two hours and was treated for cardiac failure for three days b efore driving himself home.

Gadzooks, madam! Your husband is a stubborn ol' mule, isn't he?! :-) I guess he's made of prety tough stuff, but for cryin' out loud! Anyway, this is amusing enough to share with the readers, some of whom I'm sure can relate!

I LOVE this guy's style and I can relate 100%. I had a near-miss event in an airliner so I do NOT fly. EVER. I think I would do the same as Jim did in this case, i.e. rather DIE than FLY!
