Dying for a cigarette

Four teenagers in Blenheim, New Zealand are sniffing gas (LPG) from a gas bottle in a car, when one lights a cigarette. Boom! All are taken to hospital with burns, where one dies.

There are some rule issues with this story:

- Maturity borderline: The boy who died was 18 years old; the other youths' ages ranged from 16 to 18.

- Self-Selection dubious: At this stage the youths are still staying tight-lipped about who lit the cigarette, so unfortunately it probably wasn't the boy who actually died. The police do think they know who it was.

I'm passing this on to Darwin as well so she might make a more educated decision on this story when the time comes! Meanwhile, there's no maturity issue (16 is our cutoff age, so all are old enough) but there may be a self-selection issue or even a bystanders hurt issue. I suppose we'll know soon enough!
