Yesterday evening a girl of 18 arrived with numerous fractures of the rachis and internal injuries after falling from a fifth floor window... so we were told.

When she finally woke up, we got the whole story : after arguing wirh her mother, who didn't want het to go out with some friends, she decided she would go anyway... through the window! Suicide was completely out of her head, and she said she thought there would be no problem jumping from the fifth floor!

It is reall too bad there is no media reference O can send you, so this will have to pass as a personal account rather than an Honorable mention... If you find it worthy of Darwin!

I initially read this and thought, no way"...but this happened in Paris, and Parisennes ARE that nutty! I imagine in an old building with low ceilings, 5 floors really isn't THAT far of a drop, but it's still high enough to kill you! I'll keep this as a PA!

Hmmm, five floors, eh? About 40 feet minimum. The same as slamming a car into a solid object at 20 mph. Yes, that'll do it every time. Still, poor girl must REALLY have wanted to go out - and did. I've seen some pretty weird stuff in Paris myself, especially the drivers.

Even though the girl was 18, this has all the earmarks of maturity failure. Still, I think I'd let it pass if there was more potential for humor in the incident. In the end I just don't see the funny here. Yet I do appreciate the contribution, and I understand why it brought this site to mind.
